Asian Taste Store

We love eating Indonesian food out! Recently we were all set to go to Asian Taste 86 on a Tuesday only to realize they are closed that day. We decided to try their store across the street, Asian Taste Store. The store itself is small, but they have a terrific selection of Indonesian items along with some prepared foods. Whenever I eat Indonesian food, one of my favorite things are the sauces they serve on the side. When I had a fried duck dish, it was a spicy green one. With the satay I had a fire-hot sauce that was amazing. With the whole fried fish I had another Sambal. I talked with the woman working in the store, and she suggested a jar of the Sambal. It looks like a homemade ball-jar. ($10). I purchased this and we made an amazing roasted chicken dinner & rice with this Sambal. Wow. Wow. Wow. Today, one week later, that first jar is gone. I called this afternoon and asked them to hold two jars for me because I will be there soon to pick them up. I don’t know a lot about cooking Indonesian food, but I believe this might be the place to go!

I found this place that occasionally offers some delicious-looking Indonesian food. I tried the Ayam Goreng Rica (spicy red chili fried chicken), Ayam Goreng Kremes (crispy fried chicken with crunchy bits), and Nasi Campur Ayam Cabe Ijo (mixed rice with green chili chicken). They were absolutely delicious and reminded me of similar flavors I’ve experienced in Malaysia.

Shelves stocked with imported Indonesian groceries, snacks, spices, condiments, teas, assorted beverages and other authentic Indonesian items. Excellent customer service. Highly recommended.

Small space but fully stocked with Indonesian snacks, ingredients, and some grab & go food options. I’m used to Manhattan “specialty” stores that double prices, so when I got an armful of snacks and some dinner, I was shocked by how affordable everything was ($13). I’ll be going back for sure.
