I came to Body & Brain looking for relief from back and neck pain, and I’m so glad I did. The instructors blend yoga and qigong in a unique way that helps me decompress and reconnect with my body. The studio is clean, spacious, and has a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere. Even after just a few classes, I already feel improvements in my body and mind. I believe with regular practice, I’ll continue to heal. Highly recommend to people of all ages—whether you’re in pain or just looking for a peaceful place to move and recharge!
A Life-Changing Journey: My Experience at the Tai Chi Center. Two months ago, I walked into the TaiChi Center as a complete beginner-curious, a little nervous, and hoping to find a way to reconnect with my body and mind. From day one, the atmosphere at the center felt welcoming, calm, and full of quiet strength. The space itself seems to radiate peace, but it's the people who truly make it special-especially the two extraordinary masters guiding our journey. Master Sean has a presence that is both grounding and inspiring. With wisdom and endless patience, he is reminding us that Tai Chi is as much about inner stillness as it is about movement. Master Nimah with grace and gentle humors brings a different but equally powerful energy there. They see the potential in every student and nurture it with genuine care and encouragement. As a beginner, it's easy to feel overwhelmed-but under the guidance of these two amazing teachers, I feel fully supported. Each class feels like a step toward something deeper-not just a skill, but a way of being. To anyone considering starting Tai Chi: cannot recommend this center-and these incredible masters-highly enough It's not just a class. It's a gift.
Being new to the neighborhood, I was looking for a yoga center that felt like I belonged. And I found it! This studio really feels like a community where they care. This yoga practice has helped me find salvage and allowed me to address many of my health issues. Along with daily classes, they host many different seminars and events that bring happy, open-minded and nonjudgemental people. It also allows you to break the same dull routine of an exercise class. Master Amy is quite amazing! I've never met anyone like her. She can pinpoint exactly what is bothering you either physically or mentally. All the teachers have taught me something about myself in every class I've attended. Recommended this class to anyone looking to gain back health and happiness in their lives.
I’ve been a member of Body & Brain of Forest Hills for over 4 years and I go to classes at least 3 times a week. I know that taking Yoga & Tai Chi has made a real impact on my life. The classes are invigorating, energizing, and even relaxing (meditation is definitely a favorite). I leave the classes feeling better physically, emotionally, and mentally. Classes are never boring. There are so many varied exercises targeting the whole body. The instructors give expert direction and are also encouraging and attentive to individual needs. Most impressive is that the environment is welcoming & respectful. Special recognition to Master Sean Newman, manager of Forest Hill’s Yoga & Tai Chi and congratulations to him for winning 2 gold medals in the QiGong competition in Korea. So much appreciation to all the phenomenal masters; Amy, Devon, Ilene, Maryann, & Sean.
I would strongly recommend Body&Brain. It is s very personal kind of exercise, stretching, relaxation and meditation all rolled into one. Unlike some New York yoga studios, it is in no way competitive or over-demanding. The emphasis is on personal growth and understanding, working to your limit to find your personal best, not hurt yourself. While the language may seem a little woo woo to those coming from our hard-nosed urban culture, it turns out that you really can find yourself through this gentle but sometimes challenging work, which combines great stretching and exercise with being coached to feel the energy within your body that you can use to help release you tension and stress and let go of your troubles for a while as you do it. That can be very helpful in maintaining your equilibrium over time, as you learn how to relax your mind and connect with your inner self. I love being able to do it online at home on a class schedule that requires me to show up so I don't just put it off till I don't go at all. The teachers, known as masters in the predominantly Korean culture of this discipline, are all very good and caring. If you do gym training, these classes are a great counterpoint to help you stretch out your muscles and become more flexible and self-aware. Give it a try and go with the flow and you'll see over time.
