I have been coming here for years and I honestly don't know what's going on lately. The therapists are always leaving and you are forced to start over. They have a high turn over rate which is very UNHEALTHY for a behavioral health center. They used to have incredible therapists and doctors. The supervisors are not helpful and I've had to fight for my rights as a patient. I used to find this place a safe haven. Not so much anymore
If I had written this review a couple of years ago I would have given this place a 4 star rating, only because I loved the therapist I was seeing there at the time, Glyn Girard, she was wonderful and I really miss her. I think she was the 3rd therapist I saw when I first started going there, and she was my therapist for over 5 years, and usually saw me once a week, before she left that place because they would no longer accommodate her time schedule (she needed to leave early and drive to her autistic son's school to pick him up, as he wouldn't allow anyone else to do it), and had a long commute. I wished they would have continued to allow her to keep her schedule, so they wouldn't have lost one of, if not the best therapist they had working there. During the approx. 7 years that I was a "client" there, I witness how often therapists/social workers and psychiatrists left, what the turn-over of the therapy staff was (and the reception/admission/secretarial staff). I didn't like having to change psychiatrist every few months, even though none seem to care enough about the clients, it sucks having to start over with someone new so often. When my long-term therapist Glyn left, I felt very sad (it felt like the loss of a family member and I felt like grieving for months), but decided to continue going to therapy there since it's close to where I live, I was used to going there and I didn't want to deal with the trouble of finding another place that accepts my health insurance and has decent therapists. When Glyn left, I had to wait about 2 months and had to call a couple of times before I got assigned to and given an appointment with a new therapist, this time a very young but nice man that seem pretty sympathetic. Unfortunately, he too left after a few months, so I only got to have about 5 sessions with him. Then I again had to wait months to get another therapist. After nearly 2 months of waiting and not hearing from the clinic, I called and it seemed that the request hadn't even been put through, even though the therapist had told me he would pass the request to the reception/secretarial staff before he left. So I had to wait another few weeks before I finally got a call from the new therapist I got assigned to. At the time I was very depressed and isolating, so I wasn't answering my phone or checking my messages, so it wasn't until I received a letter from the clinic from the new therapist that I found out that I had missed an appointment she had made for me, and because they haven't heard back from me they closed my case, and said that if I wanted to continue therapy to contact other places, and I think they listed a least one I could call. I was upset but too depressed to care, so I didn't try to call, knowing that it would probably take another 2-3 months to get assigned to get another therapist I didn't bother calling again to try to reopen my case there. So after approx. 7 years of me being a client at this Catholic Charities "clinic", I quit going there. It's been over half a year since I last talked with the last therapist I saw there. I haven't taken anti-depressant medication probably since mid 2018, and I've been trying to manage my depression on my own. Earlier this year, during a depressive episode, I thought about calling and trying again to get a new therapist there, but decided against it, knowing the long wait time (at least 2 months) and turnover rate of the staff. The psychiatrists or psychologists all seem pretty cold/emotionally detached and leave after a few months there. They only see you once every 5 weeks for approximately 2-5 minutes, to prescribe medication. The therapists seem more sympathetic and would make this place worth going to, if they also didn't end up leaving, and sessions were longer than 40-minutes. The reception staff could be better, the long term ones are decent enough, new ones don't last long enough, all could be more attentive and courteous with the clients. The place should be managed more efficiently to keep better, longer-term staff to provide the best service.
If you’re trying to find or improve your mental health. Please do not come here. THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. I was assigned a therapist who just saw me three times. I came with a lot of depression and anxiety. I needed help and I was desperate. Two weeks later she says she was going on vacation and that I will get an appointment after she was back. It was about two extra weeks without help. I had to go to the ER to get some help and medicine for my state of mind. I came back as the ER doctor advised me to continue with my therapist since the google phone number doesn’t connect directly with them and since my therapist never called me back I came many times in person for THREE WEEKS!!! I came today and my therapist came to give me a “dismissal letter” to go somewhere else. What kind of place is this? People come with their problems trying to find help but they only waste your time. I feel disappointed and upset. They could just put me with a different therapist or they could’ve been on top of my case. Nobody there is accountable for this. They just want to get rid of you as a disposable thing. I’m sorry. I’m so sad that I’m trying to find help and not even these therapist are empathetic with their customers who are in need. I didn’t miss two appointments because I never had the chance to be call to make a follow up. Just missed one and now I’m dismissed? This is frustrating and I came here to express it. Hopefully this helps people to think twice before seeking for help here.
Really nice front desk staff that are very knowledgeable to the questions and concerns I had. Unfortunately if you’re a new intake good luck getting a spot. Monday and Thursdays between 11 am to 2 pm are their walk in days to get evaluated in order for you to setup a future appointment. These spots fill up so quickly it’s not worth it to go in. I wish they would implement an appointment system for new intakes so that at least people with school and work can work around their schedule. Again, really nice staff and the place was clean when I walked in. If you’re planning to drive here don’t, it’s difficult to find parking.
Waited 3 hours for my first appointment following a hospitalization without any mention that this is part of their intake process. They’ll just have you sit there and wait with no mention of anything. I needed medication on the 20th of November and I began seeing them in early November and they couldn’t schedule until the second week of December (now 3 weeks without medication - I did try to find other places/doctors with no luck). Today is my appointment after waiting a month and a half to be seen and it’s been 25 minutes with no NP coming on to the zoom call. Avoid this place at all costs. Completely unprofessional and couldn’t care less about your health. I don’t know how they’re in business honestly.
