Dogtopia of Long Island City

I love this place! All the trainers and staff could not be nicer to my pup. The facility is huge, clean, and has plenty of room for my frenchie to run around and play with the other dogs. Plus they have fun activities for the doggies throughout the week.

The staff at Dogtopia literally changed our lives for the better! After we adopted our boy Grim, we discovered he was super anxious around strangers and was starting to show signs of separation anxiety. Our trainer recommended daycare to help with his socialization and time alone. We just so happened to wander into Dogtopia and from Day One the staff (McKenzie, Howard, and “Auntie” Allyson) were attentive to his needs and his pace. Fast forward a year later and Grim has shown so much improvement and absolutely ADORES his Dogtopia family. The LIC team are always happy and accommodating, and they keep Grim (and the other dogs) engaged with unique activities and celebrations. All our love to Dogtopia LIC, the Witches and Grim!

The staffs are very friendly and the fees were pretty reasonable. Once the dog is approved, and dropped off, you have access to a web cam through their app. The place is clean, and there are snacks for your dog when you pick them up or just wait for other pups to be dropped and signed in. They also give you a report card for your dog!

Our rescue chihuahua mix, Betty Ann, was timid and nervous at first, but everything changed when we started bringing her to Dogtopia regularly about four months ago. Now she pulls to go in, wiggles with excitement, and has made so many dog friends—it’s been amazing to watch her come out of her shell! The staff is incredible, the space is clean, and she gets a great workout. We’ve even done overnights with total confidence. Highly recommend signing up for a package—Dogtopia has been a game-changer for our girl!

Didn’t have a great experience personally, which was disappointing because they were spoken so highly of from our neighbor. Took my dog Mochi here for around 5 weeks. 3 weeks in I started realizing I wasn’t seeing Mochi on cameras at all every time I checked (multiple times within an hour). I asked and it was then told to me he was on “rotation” with another dog. Totally fine to be on rotation as I understand the safety of the dogs (some dogs don’t like Mochi’s play style, which again I understand, but their staff also specifically told me Mochi did not exhibit any reactive behaviors). I didn’t appreciate the lack of transparency. They should’ve made this clear the second they decided to incorporate this schedule. They apologized and acknowledged this, but it still left a bad taste in my mind after their ChatGPT looking email response. I asked where Mochi was when he was on “rotation,” which is supposedly 15 min intervals. So it was extremely strange I would never see him when I had the live feed up for the full hour. They said he was in a separate “play pen” area that was gated, but I did some research on their Instagram and didn’t see such an area, but instead I saw crates. (Again, nothing wrong with crates as I know they use crates, but the disconnect is concerning) Mochi started becoming low energy and looked confused when I picked him up, so I have suspicions he was in a crate the whole time. He would do big stretches before we left. So unless there’s video or picture proof he wasn’t in a crate the whole time he was “on rotation,” I’m inclined to think otherwise. The staff I’ve interacted with were all very kind and the front desk staff always showed that they cared deeply about Mochi, so honestly not sure where the disconnect was with all of this. Just a disappointing experience so stay cautious and attentive if you decide to take your dog here. I hope the establishment learns from this experience and honors their actual rotation system to make sure the dogs have fair amount of play time and stimulation. Other dog parents may not be so kind and understanding.
