The clinic environment and the staff’s attitude were both very good. However, the doctor was not very professional or responsible, or perhaps she lacked sufficient patience. I remember that last year I saw Dr. Zhang, who was very patient and carefully explained the different conditions of my teeth. In the end, the decision was left to me. When I chipped my tooth, I made an appointment right away. The doctor initially said it could be filled that same day. But when I asked whether getting a crown would be stronger than simply doing a filling, she did not patiently explain the difference. In fact, just because a crown might be stronger doesn’t mean the situation automatically requires one if a filling would be sufficient. However, she immediately said yes and told me she would apply for insurance approval and asked me to wait. During the time I was waiting for the insurance approval, the tooth that originally only needed a filling was not treated in time, which eventually led to pulp exposure. When I went back, I saw a different doctor. He directly refused my request to first try to preserve the nerve. His reason was very simple: since it was my first visit with him, he did not know how long the pulp had been exposed. You can assess the degree of pulp exposure, and you can explain the risks and the basis for your medical decision. But is it reasonable for a doctor to simply say that because it’s my first visit and he doesn’t know how long the pulp has been exposed, he cannot consider other options? He just stated that in his professional judgment, once the pulp is exposed, a root canal treatment is necessary. It was only after going through this experience that I truly realized that once a root canal is done, the tooth becomes non-vital. If a filling is sufficient, it should be done, and more invasive treatments like crowns or root canals should not be taken lightly.
