Fan fried rice bar was indeed great. Loved the pastrami fried rice, the cucumber salad and popcorn chicken. Quality cocktails like Burning rose with mezcal and Breakfast old fashioned were perfect with the food and experience. Have had the fried rice with wagyu beef as take away on another occasion. High quality, large portions. Polite and helpful staff. Recommended! I will return.
This is my first time eating Taiwan dishes at NYC. I came to this place with normal expectations but left really amazed of the incredible food. The food in this place is over the top, we had a few entries that were all really and then two different fried rice dishes and ohh boy… they were really really good, I was impressed. I love rices dishes and this place was amazing, it’s now on my top 5 places to eat in NYC. I will definitely comeback here again to try other fried rice dishes. Atmosphere and service were superb. This place is 100% recommended for fried rice lovers👍
Stopped in late at night right before closing, and ordered the Taiwanese Sausage Fried Rice and Chicken Fried Rice. The fried rice was great, and the Taiwanese sausage especially stood out. The chicken itself could have been just a bit more flavorful. The atmosphere was really good, chill vibe, and they had silent moves playing of a projector about the bar. The rest of their menu looked good and wish we had the time to try some of the other Taiwanese specialties. The service was really friendly and helpful, and accommodating since we can so close to closing. Ended up being about $47 for the two friend rices and a tap kombucha, before tip.
Dined in on a Sunday evening. Food was great, although they ran out of mapo tofu after we already ordered it so we had to select something else. We had the steak and eggs, mushroom fried rice and fried chicken bites. To drink, we had warm sake that of course had a restaurant premium cost but was good quality, especially for the canned kind. Regarding "authenticity", my partner is Taiwanese and when I asked her if it was made as it would be in Taiwan she said that the chicken was pretty spot on as a street food item but the fried rice and steak and eggs were more upscale/fusion. She still highly enjoyed the meal. The restaurant itself was cozy and intimate. It could have been heated a bit more given how cold it was outside, but overall a great environment. The waitress was also the bartender, and did great juggling the tables and the bar.
I was hopping this place would be good. In Taiwan or even China, fried rice is an essential stable that isn’t fancy or super presentable but still requires real cooking skills. I can see they try to incorporate Taiwanese ingredients and play with traditional elements but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. The fried rice comes in some interesting flavors but overall too bland, and the rice was dry. The zucchini cold noodles were more like a noodle salad than a standard cold sesame noodle dish. The only dish that stood out for me was the fermented pop corn chicken, it was juicy and tender. However, we did receive very friendly service and their outdoor seating was quite nice under the shade.
