Helpful owner. I bought some great green tea. If it's very pricey for the teapots. But they have a great selection.
Walking into Fang is like walking into an interactive tea museum with full time curator on site. Great selection of high quality and premium tea, teaware, and knowledgeable staffs that can tell you everything you need to know about tea. The store also offers cup to go in addition to tea leafs. A great place to visit to pick up something for yourself or unique gift!
Fang's is one of the knowledgeable GongFu style tea shops I've been to. I stopped by Flushing NY right before heading for the airport and had to go in and try. They have a variety of selections of Oolongs and other teas like Pu-Erh. I've tried their one hundred year YiWu pu-erh tea and I thought it was very good. They have a few selections of YiXing and other teaware. I'd recommend anyone to stop by if they have some time to enjoy some tea.
Affordable tea tastings, wide variety of lovely teas, great knowledge and kindess! Highly recommend! While the name of Fang Gourmet Tea rings familiar in my mind, I didn't give it much thought until it came highly recommended in a chat with another tea enthusiast. Despite my lack of preparation in making a reservation at least a day in advance on the official website, I took a chance, walked in, and asked if they had any availabilities for the day. Luckily, they had an empty time slot in around 40min, and to my great relief they made no fuss about my request. In my quest to branch out from Phoenix oolongs, I asked for recommendations, and after mentioning a previous successful encounter with a Dong Ding Oolong, I settled on a Formosa Oolong. I had 5 gaiwan brews, and was pleasantly surprised to be asked whether I prefer lighter or stronger steepings. I asked to start with a lighter brew, but we also explored some stronger brews. I enjoyed the evolving interplay of floral, lychee (the comparison did get me a surprised but polite eyebrow raise), and honey notes. I asked about oxidation and roasting of this particular oolong, and after the 5th steeping, I was encouraged to feel the brewed leaves as a clue-in to roast level. We also took the opportunity to examine the leaves more in depth, and I enjoyed learning about the importance of the stem for Taiwanese teas and the process of handpicking tips with 3-4 leaves. As I was leaving, coat in hand (I've started waiting until I'm outside to put on my coat in small and busy spaces), the workers waved aside my worry and urged me to put my coat on first since it was so cold. I left feeling touched and happy from talking about tea with knowledgeable and friendly people, the fragrance of the tea lingering on my tongue for a good long while.
Fang Gourmet Tea is a small little tea shop in the heart of downtown Flushing, serving up premium quality teas directly from China. No photos are allowed in the store, but they had a tea ceremony going on where you can taste the teas they pour, as well as selling quality tea sets that are of many different designs. We sampled one of the teas and it was high quality, definitely similar to what we got from China. They have multiple types of tea for sale, which are all reasonably priced.
