My sister and I did the tea omakase ($78pp) and had the place to ourselves one Wed evening. I was pretty skeptical at first--$78 for...tea?--and was prepared to cry cuddling my wallet that night, but I was wrong. The omakase was worth every penny. TL;DR: $78 gets you enough food to feel pleasantly full in that way that Japanese tasting menus can accomplish and access to unusual teas and tea preparations. Plus, gorgeous preparations throughout, from glassware to food presentation. Besides, you've spent $78 on far worse things. - Light bites + cold jasmine tea: To start, we got a glass full of savory crackers, dried raspberries and dried dates, and a plate of mochi with red bean. The tea was infused with fresh jasmine flowers and herbs, and tasted divine. - Iced Japanese Gyokuro Tea with Gardenia & Iced Japanese Gyokuro Tea with Magnolia: Both of these deliciously complex teas were prepared with an actual hulu strainer and poured over ice cubes. I preferred the magnolia, since it was more unusual. - Apple Tea Cocktail: For our one alcoholic tea beverage of the omakase, we enjoyed an apple-flavored spirit mixed with cold brew green tea (I forget which kind). It was lightly sweet and refreshing but not super alcoholic--so don't worry if you're a lightweight. - Gyokuro Tea over Rice: Our savory course was a generous bowl of ochazuke with plump shrimp, veggies, perfectly sticky rice, and a delicious Gyokuro tea broth. The sommelier prepared so much broth, we had enough for seconds and thirds. Delicious. - Hot Brew Gardenia White Tea: Transitioning now to hot teas, this concoction was warming and calming. It was the perfect accompaniment for our dessert course. - Main Dessert - Heirloom Tomato Panna Cotta: Not sure why I've never had tomato panna cotta before, but now I understand I'm a sheltered peasant who hasn't lived until now. My god, tomato panna cotta is divine! Especially when made like this, with fresh heirloom cherry tomatoes perfectly mixed with vanilla bean custard (you can literally see the beans). We had to stop ourselves from inhaling this. - Lychee Black Tea & Black Bean Tea: Winding down our tea portion, we transitioned to the darkest shades of tea. The Lychee was fragrant and strong without being bitter. The Black Bean, though, was my favorite: smokey, musky and caffeine-free, so you can drink as much as you want at midnight on a school night when you have nothing else to do. - Final Dessert - NY Cheesecake: This was a pretty straightforward, though generous, slice of NY-style cheesecake. Unlike the other food courses, though, it was not as good quality and tasted a bit stale/stiff, as if it hadn't been properly thawed. It was still decent, just not the big bang I would've wanted to end on. Oh well.
Had a wonderful time at flowing tea house for their tea omakase. It was a 14 course experience and I was honestly surprised by how generous the portions were, especially the tea chazuke. IT WAS DELICIOUS. The food and tea paired really well together. My favorite was the gardenia green tea and strawberry green tea. It smelled super fragrant but tasted clean and refreshing. The host and Ada explained how the blend was made, which made it even more enjoyable. Also, i had to say, Ada has amazing taste in teaware! Every piece was beautiful. Such a relaxing and thoughtful experience. Would definitely come back for their spring menu 🍵
I’ve been on the hunt for an authentic tea tasting experience in NYC, and Flowing Space truly delivers. I’m pretty particular when it comes to tea as I like them bold, fragrant, distinctive flavors, and I loved how thoughtfully they prepared each tea while explaining the process along the way. I tried the 14 tea omakase for $78. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but I think it’s worth it for the experience. Each tea was beautifully fragrant, and you could really taste the unique character of each one. My favorites were the gardenia and black bean teas, while the most surprising was the gyokuro! I was amazed by how savory it was and how different it tasted brewed hot vs. cold. My least favorite was probably the yuzu honey yogurt dessert as it was a bit too sweet for me, but overall I really enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend checking them out!
Genuinely cannot recommend Flowing Space Tea House enough. This was hands down the best tea tasting experience I’ve ever had. Every tea was introduced with so much care and knowledge, from rare Japanese and Chinese teas to beautifully layered infusions. The pacing felt intentional and calming, and the presentation was stunning—each cup felt like a small moment of art. We were also given so many thoughtful freebies, which made the experience feel incredibly warm and personal rather than transactional. What really set this place apart was the host’s generosity and passion. She took the time to introduce us to independent ceramic artists, explaining the stories behind the pottery we were using, and even brought us downstairs to her shop, where she sells curated art and handmade pieces. There’s also an adorable tatami mat café space, which made the entire visit feel like stepping into a quiet, creative world away from the city.
A whimsical & precious hidden gem. I celebrated a Friend's Birthday via the 14 course 'Full Tea Omakase.' The experience was thoughtful, delicate, & so amazing. We were introduced to multiple teas; the tea's origins/ sourcing & flavor notes were thoroughly & passionately explained. The Tea was accompanied by various delicious finger foods & desserts that were made with so much care. The entire experience (from the tea, food, ambience, music, & even the serving ware/ceramics used to serve the food & tea in) was crafted with so much Love, Care, Precision, Passion, & discernible dedication. Your attention to detail was admirable. It was Enchanting to meet you Eva(sorry for any misspellings!) & team/ ladies. Thank you for the fantastic experience :-)
