If you want to try authentic Henan street food, Gao Qun Sheng Hu La Tang is a must-visit. Their Hu La Tang (spicy pepper soup) is rich, flavorful, and packed with ingredients like tofu skin, beef, vegetables, and chewy noodles. The soup has a deep peppery aroma and a comforting warmth that’s perfect for breakfast or a cold day. Everything tastes very traditional and homemade, just like the kind you would find at local morning markets in Henan. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. It’s simple, fast, and incredibly satisfying — the kind of place locals go to regularly. If you want to experience real local flavor instead of tourist food, this is definitely worth trying.
I ordered the spicy pepper soup and soy milk to go. The soy milk was dense yet smooth. The spicy soup was quite starchy — not my favorite style — but it had rich ingredients. The restaurant is very clean and looks new.

Back in my hometown, spicy soup is everywhere. I went out of my way to get some yesterday, but it was honestly pretty awful. The steamed buns were bad too. The only thing that was decent was the little fried dough sticks.
Overall, the flavor was decent. However, when I visited, the staff didn’t seem fully familiar with the workflow yet. The pace for online orders and pickup felt quite slow, and the line moved gradually, with packing taking longer than expected. Also, all of the pastry and dough-based items were quite oily. They almost felt like they had been rolled in oil. It would be nice if the oil level could be moderated a bit, as a lighter touch would make them more enjoyable. That said, I’m still looking forward to trying their soup noodles. I saw someone order the lamb stewed noodle soup that day, and it looked beautiful and appetizing.
