Hong Kong Cakes is the first street vendor I ordered from when I moved to New York City and I’ve been going back ever since - for 17 years.
They reliability fill a hot metal mold with an egg-based batter. The mold creates a sheet of egg, or bubble, shaped, light and bouncy, slightly sweet cakes with a delightfully crispy outside.
You can add a variety of toppings for an extra dollar: honey lemon, chocolate, chocolate and condensed milk (my favorite), peanut butter and condensed milk, strawberry and condensed milk, honey coconut, coconut and condensed milk.
They always run a buy 5 get 1 free special. After 4pm, buy 2, get 1 free. They take cash and Venmo payments.
They opened in 2001 and have an A-rating. I usually eat my Hong Kong Cakes in Columbus Park nearby.
