Judson Memorial Church

We saw the Bread and Puppet show. What a great venue.

On Wednesdays there is spectacular FREE art programming. It’s called Judson Arts Wednesdays. I found it through the dude door (small sign advertising but also had seen a post on IG) They served vegan chili and cake then I saw a dance performance that included a sound bath at the end. Incredible.

I understand they have a free market. Clothing, electronics etc. Please bring items that are in good condition. I plan on going this weekend with my items and see what others are offering. Love my city.

Beautiful space located right across the street from Washington Square Park. Saw the movement "Failure" by Laura Peterson. Performance was really interesting and much different than I expected. Rebuilding and destroying society...look at the pics.

Judson is one of my favorite places in the city. It’s beautiful inside - it’s a Stanford White building with 13 La Farge stained glass windows (the most in any one location anywhere). In the meeting room, across from the La Farges there are murals of our “queer saints of color”: James Baldwin, Bayard Rustin, Marsha P, Octavia Butler, etc. I burst into tears the first time I walked in there. You don’t have to be any kind of religion to go there (I’m super Pagan, and a member of Judson). They welcome everyone at Judson, and make you feel safe and at home the minute you walk in the door. There’s just so much love and support. Many of the offerings outside of service include meals. Wednesday nights there’s delicious soup - among other offerings - which accompanies some amazing performance art pieces. Judson has a loooooong history of supporting art and artists (modern dance was birthed at Judson). Judson also has a looooong history of social justice campaigns (“happenings” began at Judson). Judson is such a special place. I feel both accepted and loved exactly as I am when I’m at Judson, and also called to be my better self there. I would encourage anyone to peak in. I like to say, “I don’t go to Judson in order to get into heaven in the afterlife. I go to Judson to learn to be my better self in this life.” Simply put, there’s just so much divinity at Judson. I feel love and loved every time I’m there.
