Ms. Chen - Expert Tailoring

I came to see Ms Chen to adjust three linen shirts and she was wonderful. She took the time to make the proper adjustments, even staying late to make some final tweaks. The price was also very reasonable. She was very nice and kind. I will definitely use her again next time I need alterations. Definitely recommend!

A few weeks ago, I brought four pairs of pants here to have the lengths altered. Ms. Chen told me it would take almost a month as she was quite busy. I just picked them up today, and every pair fits perfectly! She did an incredibly meticulous job, and the price is unbelievably affordable, just $35 for four pairs (price varies depending on the material). Although it took some time, it was absolutely worth the wait!

Came to her to get a dress tailored for a wedding after finding her on TikTok, and I also decided to drop off a button up shirt that I had thrifted with the hopes that she could make it a bit more well fitted. I came in the middle of my work day and got held up bc she insisted that I translate Chinese for her other customers. I ended up not even being able to pick it up in time for the wedding since it was at 4pm on a Sunday and she said the dress would not be ready until 1pm on Sunday…. The price she charged for two items and for the quality of work was obscene. What was particularly infuriating about my experience with her is that she told me with a smile on her face that she LIES to all of her customers, telling them that she’s going back to China so that they’ll come back faster to come pick up their clothing. Admitting with a smile on your face that you purposefully lie to all of your customers is not okay. On top of that, she continued to sew the clothes when I arrived to pick them up three weeks later, they were not ready at all. The button up shirt fit perfectly when I arrived to pick it up, but she insisted that she needed to continue sewing it, and 20 minutes later, I tried it on and it’s now too tight on the shoulders for me to even wear. As for the original dress that I needed shortened for the wedding, it was barely any shorter and the sewing was done so sloppily. She also leaves pen marks on the clothes still. For the price I paid, I might as well have bought a sewing machine and just shortened the dress myself. I wanted to support a local Chinese owned business but her work and the way she conducts business is horrible. I have no idea how she’s gotten so much positive coverage.

The dress came in two layers and I needed to have the sleeves shorten. She gave me a price and I took a picture of the two pieces and sent it through text so she can keep track of which pieces were mine. I gave her 3 weeks to do it and on the last day, I texted her and she said it’s not ready and to come back in two days. When i go to pick up, she only shortened the outer piece of the dress and said the price was only for the outer piece and tried to make me pay to shorten the inner layer. She said if I paid extra, she will shorten the sleeves for me right away. Out of principle, I did not pay it. I did not like that she made it seem like she was doing me a favor and it was my fault. Why would I shorten the sleeve of the outer layer and not the inner layer? That’s just ridiculous. I will now go to other tailors in Chinatown, it’s simply not worth it to deal with her unprofessionalism. Steer clear of this place. I really wanted to support small businesses but I draw the line when they try to take advantage of you and curse at you in Chinese.

Terrible experience and would NOT recommend! The first time we met, Ms Chen promised she could do a job better than others (even criticizing neighboring stalls) and that she would refund my payment if I were dissatisfied. I needed 4 pairs of trousers altered but turned out that she ruined 1 (she cut the hem instead of fixing a broken zipper) and had me go back 3x for 1 pair that she said was too difficult (waist adjustment). I would have appreciated she told me in advance that the item was not ready instead of letting me travel all the way just for her to reschedule. I went by her schedule each time but it was frustrating for her to keep making excuses. When it was finally the day to pick up the last pair, she said “I did the job based on the price I gave”. That was so disappointing given her commitment the day we first met. I didn’t know this meant a broken belt loop even after repair. She also threw my cash back when I asked a refund for the error in the cut hem, and it wasn’t the full amount. Even with a language barrier, one would know that gesture was utterly rude! I am only thankful that there was another customer who helped in translating that day because despite her sign being written in English, Ms Chen only communicates in Chinese. She’s also dismissive in using a translation app. It is not worth the trouble, time, effort, and worst, destroyed clothing. UPDATE: She sent me a text message after I posted this review. I just used Google translate and these nasty comments were uncalled for.
