We found the best prices for seafood at NY Marts - comparing their neighbor and Hong Kong market. We like all of the markets for different options but, for seafood this market is slightly less for the same fish. Pro-tip: you need to be able to recognize what you want by sight, there are prices for every fish but not every fish has the name in English written on the tag. Also, you get what you want in the plastic bags and then ask them to clean and weigh for you. It helps to know a few words in Mandarin for the fish and meat department, they really appreciate it if you say what you would like in Mandarin. 请切掉头并清洗干净。谢谢
Honestly, it's just another Asian market. Obviously you will find most Chinese products. But American products are more expensive compared to American markets. The place is typical with slightly unpleasant smells due to the fact that they sell fresh seafood and raw meats. Sometimes they have offers that I don't hesitate to take advantage of. Remember to please check the expiration date of the products and even check the product. I once found a package of turkey sausages that were not yet expired but the color and texture of the product was already rotten (they probably take little care about the refrigeration of the products) Because there are products that should be frozen and are simply on a normal shelf. It's not a bad store, I even shop often but it takes me an hour to check the products making sure they are not damaged before buying
They used to sell cooked soy sauce duck, soy sauce chicken, roast pork, soy sauce squid with food stamps legally, but they don't do it anymore. The prices are great. You can buy a 56-oz can of Kikkoman sesame oil for about $25.00. For off-brand sesame oil, you can purchase a can of sesame oil for about $16.00. The fish is so fresh a lot of fish are still moving. The food is great, and the Han are super-friendly. You must go there!
The grocery market is literally directly under the Manhattan Bridge, some items are priced cheaper than other stores, but some are not, you need to comparison shop. Summary New York Mart (75 East Broadway) is a bustling, two-story Asian supermarket located directly beneath the Manhattan Bridge. It serves as a vital grocery hub for the "Little Fuzhou" section of Chinatown, catering primarily to local residents with a focus on fresh, affordable daily essentials. The store is organized into two distinct levels: Street Level (Ground Floor): This floor is dedicated to shelf-stable dry goods, including an extensive selection of instant noodles, Asian snacks, spices, sauces, bottled drinks, and household knick-knacks. Basement Level: This is the high-traffic "wet market" area. It features a full-service butcher counter, live and frozen seafood tanks, and a wide array of inexpensive produce. You can also find refrigerated items like tofu, fresh noodles, and dumplings here. History The supermarket occupies the ground and lower levels of the building at 75-85 East Broadway, which was originally part of a larger commercial development built in the late 2000s. Before New York Mart moved in, the space was previously occupied by a branch of the Hong Kong Supermarket chain. The location is historically significant as it sits on the site of the former Sun Sing Theater (and later the New Canton Theater), which was a cultural landmark for Cantonese opera and Chinese cinema for decades. After the theater closed in the 1990s and the building was eventually renovated, the lower floors were converted into the modern retail space that exists today. While the neighborhood around it has seen various changes, including the rise of nearby art galleries and boutique shops, New York Mart remains one of the largest and most functional traditional grocery anchors on the East Broadway corridor.
The place is terrifying, but praces are fine. Sea food is for good prices.
