I was a long-term patient of Dr. Morgan and went to her repeatedly for over two years with persistent UTI-like symptoms, pelvic discomfort, and other symptoms now clearly associated with ovarian cancer. Each time, I was told there was no UTI and my concerns were dismissed. At one point, Dr Phillips removed a polyp. I was in significant pain during and after the procedure and was crying, yet my pain was dismissed and I was told that polyps do not cause pain and this is all in my head. No further investigation or imaging was ordered despite ongoing symptoms. After multiple visits with the same unresolved symptoms, I should have been sent for imaging (MRI). I was not, not the first time, not the second time, and not after years of repeat complaints to Dr Morgan who was my main doctor. I was eventually diagnosed by another doctor with stage 3 high-grade ovarian cancer. Had proper imaging been ordered when I repeatedly presented with these symptoms, this cancer would have been caught much earlier, at stage 1, not after two years of dismissal. I am sharing this so other patients with persistent symptoms are taken seriously and evaluated appropriately. Maria B
I had a very disappointing experience with this practice. I was drawn to the practice by Dr. Chen and Morgan, but was never told that they no longer deliver until a hospital nurse mentioned it. Dr. Bermudez handled my delivery, and it was an awful experience. She seemed very inexperienced and defensive and seemed annoyed when I wanted to think about decisions. She did not say anything encouraging during my entire induction and labor experience, only telling me that I was pushing wrong. She brought in a resident who literally screamed "harder! harder!" at me. My epidural ran out after 2 hours of pushing and she told me I could not have more pain relief until I decided if I wanted a c section which felt extremely coercive. When I was rehospitalized with severe postpartum preeclampsia, I did not feel confident in the practice's care. The nurses even had to intervene a few times, including once when I was being discharged without anyone explaining my new medications. After my discharge the practice could not manage my blood pressure and ultimately told me to see a cardiologist but did not ever follow up to confirm I found care. (When I did find a cardiologist on my own, he said the advice I'd been given about my meds was wrong.) More broadly, the practice felt extremely disorganized. They ran a genetic test (Vistara) that I never consented to and did not even tell me they were running it -- I thought I was just giving blood for the standard NIPT I had requested. When I called to complain about this, no one ever called me back. When I told Dr. Phillips I thought I was anemic she blew off my symptoms, and by the time I was tested at 28 weeks I was so severely anemic that I needed an iron infusion. And Dr. Chen told me I could go 10 days past my due date before being induced, but at a later appointment Dr. Bermudez abruptly announced that I'd be induced by my due date solely because of my age (39). I gave feedback about my negative experience to Dr. Kim at my six week follow-up, but no one followed up with me. I do really like Dr. Chen but I would not recommend this practice to anyone for pregnancy/birth.
TLDR - Avoid Dr Chen. Dismissed clear symptoms indicative of abnormal growths in my breast. Later saw a breast surgeon told me was very good I did not ignore as this can degrade to malignant cancer. Was absent with all care and coordinator of care. Flagged symptoms to Chen at my annual and was told it’s nothing. No imaging ordered or follow up. Issues persisted 6 months later and I returned. Chen said it’s probably nothing but would order Ultrasound for my “peace of mind” but would be fine. No urgency or concern. Fast forward, I have ultrasound which shows abnormal nodule suspicious enough to warrant breast biopsy. Chen was unavailable to discuss my results, findings or concerns in between ultrasound and biopsy. Failed to send the required referral to the Imaging Center after I requested this 3 times. Chen did not call me back after my 5 calls to the office. Chen responded to one of my 6 MyChart messages the day after my biopsy saying she had nothing more to offer than what the radiologist said. After the biopsy, Chen did not check in on me. The results showed an intraductal papilloma which was symptomic and requires follow up with a breast surgeon. Dr Chen told me to be happy and this is good news. Chen refused to help in requesting my medical images which were needed for my surgical consult. I had a very hard time getting these from medical records and Chens group was unwilling to offer any help. I’ve asked Chen to upload my ultrasound and biopsy results to MyChart for consolidation of medical records. This has not happened. Chen was unfortunately very absent, unhelpful and severely dismissed my clear symptoms that should have received prompt follow up a year ago. Some of the worst medical care I’ve had in my life but consistent with the care I’ve received at Mount Sinai.
My actual "visit" and communication with Dr Morgan was fine. I was concerned about a possible urinary track issue and had a urine sample left to evaluate that. Dr Morgan told me she would call me with the results. I received in the "chart follow-up" (which I have difficulty using, that one portion of the result was "abnormal" which I was alarmed by. As I had not been called, I called the office and was told that Dr Morgan would be back to me within the next day with the results explained. That was a week ago today, and no one has returned my call to explain the urine test results.
I’m due for induction in less than two weeks and already feel completely blindsided by this clinic. No one informed me that Dr. Phillips had left the practice. No one told me that Dr. Chen no longer performs deliveries. I chose this practice specifically because I trusted Dr. Chen and felt comfortable under her care. Learning about these major changes so late in my pregnancy, and not directly from the clinic, has been extremely disappointing. With my due date approaching, a new doctor has just joined the practice, and I am effectively forced to accept that I will only meet her once before she may be the one delivering my baby. I have no meaningful choice, since she will be on call during the week of my induction. Having a different doctor this late in pregnancy is not a small change. Continuity of care matters both physically and mentally. Late pregnancy requires familiarity with a patient’s full medical history, risk factors, and evolving conditions. When a physician is not deeply familiar with those details, it understandably raises concerns about decision-making during labor, especially in medically indicated inductions. Beyond the clinical aspect, this abrupt transition creates significant stress at a time that should feel supported and stable. Pregnancy and delivery are vulnerable experiences. Patients deserve proactive communication and transparency about major provider changes that directly affect who will deliver their child. The lack of clear communication has added unnecessary anxiety during an already high-risk and emotionally intense period
