From the moment you walk into Piragua Art Space, the first thing that comes to mind is community. I’ve been involved with big nonprofit organizations in the Lower East Side for some time, but this is one that really feels like home. Every time I go it’s because either the Director of the center, David Soto, has personally invited me or because someone else tells me about a new art installation happening there that can’t be missed. You definitely feel a sense of pride in our Latino culture when your there. If what you’re looking for is a place that understands Latino roots, this is the place to go! Salsa, rumba, bomba, plena, art shows, and community engagement, this place has it all. It makes me feel so proud to see how the LES has grown and Piragua Art Space is part of that growth. Que viva Loisaida!

Although I am not currently located in NYC. I enjoy attending the events that take place at PIRAGUA over Instagram Live. Keeping the community together & being able to watch it from the island of Puerto Rico is amazing! You can feel the energy through the phone 👏🏽
