Planet Han Chinese

Our daughter has been attending Planet Han for about two years and loves her teachers and classmates. Irene and everyone there is always so welcoming and always try to make their classes fun and engaging for the kids. My daughter has consistently learned new vocabulary and has even begun recognizing and memorizing Chinese characters (she just turned four!) through songs and poems. We’re so grateful to have this in our community and hope to continue her after-school classes there in the future!

My son has been attending Planet Han's 3-5 year old non-fluent speakers class during the weekends for the last semester. We've been really happy with the quality of classes, the teachers and the lesson plans. My son has become more interested in Chinese and will tell us about new words he has learned. Additionally, he enjoys tracing the Chinese character sheets that are sent home each week and it gives us a chance to go over a few of the vocab words (non-mandatory, but my son likes them). Each class starts with an activity-based lesson, which my son has fun with. Most importantly, as it can be challenging to convince young children to get excited about a weekend class, the teachers are extremely kind and bring a lot of energy to the classroom in order to engage the children.

My daughter has been going to Planet Han since she was three. So I now have eight years of experience with Irene and her team and I can say with a great degree of confidence and direct data that her team is universally, fantastic, attentive, flexible, and, the results speak for themselves. During Covid Irene arranged for Zoom lessons for my daughter after we weren’t in the same city for a little while to make sure that she kept up her Chinese. When my daughter had school priorities that interrupted her previously scheduled classes Irene was kind enough to arrange for private tutoring at a very reasonable rate. Today when I picked up my daughter, she showed me how she was reading Chinese characters from a book. This stuff works, and you just need to stick with it over time. Thank you team Planet Han.

All three of our children have gone to Planet Han for their morning Preschool program starting back in 2018 through present day as well as for some after school programming in elementary school and summer camps! We loved their program back in 2018 and still love it today. The teachers spend an immense amount of energy to craft engaging curriculum for their preschoolers. The teachers are all incredibly warm and enthusiastic and care so much about the children's well begin and their growth in language development. The school's program has also evolved and we now receive videos sent home to share exactly what the children are learning in the classroom so that we can watch and share at home too. Highly recommend Planet Han to any family with children looking to learn Mandarin as well as mixed families where maybe only one parent speaks Mandarin to help reinforce the language. You will not be disappointed!

Both my kids have attended Planet Han for various things (preschool and summer camp). Not only have my kids gotten top tier mandarin immersion, I love supporting a small, local business. My younger child went from very minimal mandarin knowledge to fully understanding, and then even having the confidence to speak in the two year preschool program. Immersion really works! In addition, I really like how hands on (lots of manipulatives) each lesson is. The teachers take a lot of care and creativity in creating things to interact with— repurposing a blow up kiddie pool for a giant soup pot for kids to stir, painting with apples, costumes, etc. Many of their manipulatives are crafted by being creative and repurposing things, which is also in line with our family values. If you really want your kids to learn mandarin, immersion is the way to go! And they do it in a way that is interactive and fun!
