Powerhouse Gym Bayside

I just checked if this place is still open and im happy to see it is , I used to work out in this gym almost 30 years ago ! I Remember LL Cool J was working out with us . Bunch of big Jews Italians Greeks spanish , man the good old days ! This place was probably the best gym I been to as far as motivation from surrounding huge members , great shakes , just good memories. The racing 🏁 after the workouts on Francis Lewis was a good way to end our workouts . I should visit there one of these days , If I lived closer by i would have joined again. Peace ✌️

I don't understand some of the negative reviews. Old school gym with friendly clientele. Staff treats guests like family. Most members are extremely considerate. They don't treat machines like phone booths or nail salons. I have found that to be a problem at other gyms. I go during the day. There's always cardio equipment available. You usually don't have to wait for many machines. I mainly use the machines upstairs. Downstairs, they have a huge amount of free weights. The fees are extremely reasonable for the services offered.

Great gym to get a solid workout in. Heavy equipment that many other facilities do not have. Tommy, the owner, is very welcoming and has created a family like feeling throughout the gym. If you are looking to get a great lift in, this is the place for you.

Gonna be totally honest here. The owner and staff are very personable and kind. But the gym is run down. I really wish they would invest some of their profit and efforts into making the gym just a bit cleaner and maybe add some things like TRX bands, more kettle bells. It would be even nicer if they revamped the room downstairs. Perhaps add a patch of turf and a sled? I understand this gym has a body building history and legacy however it would be nice if they attempted to cater to a wider variety of needs. I will return simply because of location. I find it’s over priced for what they have to offer and lack of cleanliness. But I’m at the mercy of time and convenience so I deal with it.

If I can give this gym 0 stars I would. I've been coming to this gym for about 2 years and I think they have yet to clean it in those two years. The walls are wrapped with rug which doesn't make sense. The weights stick together because of the moisture. When it rains, it always leaks from the ceiling. There is mold on the ceilings. All the fans are filled with dust. EVERYTHING is filled with dust. There are holes in the walls. I've been to plenty of dirty gyms, but this has to be the worst by far. Idk how they can charge $60 per month and not have the decency clean the place.
