Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church

I grew up at this church in the late 70's and through the 80's. The parish used to have standing room only all seats and balconies full every Sunday. Now not so much. I really hope it comes back to that full attendance every Sunday. Come on people support your local church.

Very lovely small church with beautiful stained glass windows. Has a circular roof with exposed beams. There's a small garden by the front with a couple of benches and a small parking lot in the back. Inside there are two small chapels on either side of the altar. And balconies above the chapels for extra seating.

I attended the former Queen of Peace School from 3rd grade till graduation in 1970. It was a great school. I transferred there after we moved to Kew Garden Hills from Inwood in upper Manhattan where I attended St Jude from K-3rd grade. When mom passed in 2006 I was planning her funeral mass at Queen of Peace.Father Tighe told me the school had closed. Sad to hear. I made my confirmation there, attended Mass there and mom liked the church so we held her funeral mass there.It was always a beautiful church.One of my cousin’s atttended the school from 1st grade till graduation from 8th.

Very disappointing. I considered this to be my church as I've lived in the neighborhood since 1975. I've had all my sacrament done there, attended Sunday school and have baptized my God children there. I called to take another baptism class there and was told by their Deacon that I was not a practicing Catholic because I don't got every Sunday. I was honest in telling them that I don't go as much as I should but that I do practice my faith everyday without fail. Their answer - you aren't in the faith. Wow, now I understand why people hate the church. I didn't know "he" was taking attendance. Where does living by his word, doing as he would do and being their for your fellow man fall? Not at Queen of Peace. Miss the days of Father Ralph. First time I was told by a religious leader that I wasn't a Catholic. No wonder people are leaving in record numbers. Please don't let these padded comments of how nice it looks fool you, this is an unforgiving church. So much for community.

The worst parish today where the clergy are biased. The parish and parishioners under Rev Father Tighe were different. That was a worshipping community. Today, it has become a museum. Should be added to New York's sightseeing list.
