Queens Public Library at Flushing

Probably the biggest library in Queens. I enjoy the diverse reading materials specifically the Chinese and Spanish books. There are a wide number of organized events. On the third floor, there is a Workforce One office. On the second a wide array of films to borrow. If you want to study here, it can get very packed with people.

I've been here many times since my childhood. It's still amazes me that the kids section staff can keep talking loudly among themselves nonstop for 20 min straight, cracking jokes with the maintenance person, while the few kids who actually want to read stays quiet. It's just sadly unprofessional. If you are a parent bringing your kids here for some quiet time, don't stay in the kids section on the first floor.

I know I'm not supposed to drink my milk tea in the library. I just put it on the table and it was in a bag, but a little bit of the milk tea leaked out. Was it necessary to say it so loudly?

Nothing but disappointment with a lady security staff wearing a headscarf. In the quiet study room, she loudly yelled at a teenager about a drink, disrupting everyone. When I asked her to lower her voice, she responded aggressively and refused to give her name when i asked her name. Later, I went to complain to the security supervisor but he dismissed my concern, saying she was “doing her job.” I’ve seen other security staff being very professional and respectful so why can’t she be like them? Did she skip her much needed training? Library security should be professional and maintain a calm, respectful environment. I’ve filed a formal complaint and will escalate to a council member if it is not addressed. Update 1/15/2026: I received a call from the investigator Morris, who was professional and apologetic. She confirmed that appropriate corrective actions would be taken concerning the security staff member and the security supervisor.

Some of employees are very rude specially red hair security lady. She herself is very loud when talk with people while working in a library. She was telling me not to bring my child to library as he was talking a little while playing games. He’s a delayed child with developmental issues which I told her earlier also. She could tell me to stop him talking or singing song while playing games in library computer but she can’t tell me not to bring my child to library anymore. She & another young white girl(maybe a part time librarian as I don’t see her often) were telling me to go home. There were a lot of kids who were also talking while playing games & she didn’t told them anything which seems very racial. How come this kind of racist people can work at a library?
