Shay's Place Forest Hills

I have been getting my haircut by Ida for almost 20 years and it has always been a wonderful experience. Ida is an amazing hair stylist. She listens to what her customers want and she executes flawlessly. I even went to her the day before my wedding and she was able to squeeze in an appointment for me. The haircut was perfect! I highly recommend Ida and Shay’s Place in Forest Hills. You won’t be disappointed!

Ida did an amazing job saving my hair after I received the worst haircut at another salon. Another stylist elsewhere gave me a terrible chop, and when I walked into Shay’s place, Ida brought my hair back to life and made me feel pretty again. My confidence was completely restored after my cut with her. She’s so kind, talented, and did a beautiful job—especially with the blowout afterward. I’ll definitely be coming back to her for future services.

I have been wanting to share this glowing review for 4 months! I was only in the neighborhood for a few hours a few months ago and was in desperate need of a good haircut. I just had one back home but it did nothing for my hair and my hair hung flat and lifeless. That's when I wandered into Shay's Place right before close and asked if there was any way they could cut my hair now? Graciously, Shay took me in. I didn't need a style, only a cut. I didn't bother with specifics other than long, layered and curly and Shay proceeded to give me one of the best haircuts of my life! Pure magic. I am so grateful and truly cannot wait to go back. Not everyone can cut curly hair let alone work pure magic as Shay did. I hope to return soon bc I have not let anyone touch it since. Another testament to his skills, though am now certainly overdue. A legit nightmare. I usually go to Ida, who is so precise with her craft — she always understands exactly what I want. This time, I decided to try someone different, and it was the worst mistake ever. He asked how much length I wanted to cut (I even showed the length I wanted to keep — see photo), and I repeatedly emphasized that I don’t like my hair too short. I asked for a simple face-framing cut, not layers. While he kept cutting, I kept telling myself to “trust the process,” but in the end, he gave me layers instead of the face frame I requested, which made my hair look way shorter. I told him at the end that my hair was short, and he said he gave me “body.” But that’s not what I asked for. I’m honestly too nice to make a scene, but I cried afterward — half of my length is gone. I would’ve rather had a blunt cut than these unwanted layers. I know what I want as a customer, and Ida has always delivered. I just trusted the process too much this time, and it turned into a haircut nightmare.

I went to my appointment today, June 8, 2025, at 1pm. I'm really unhappy since they charged $420.00 for my hair highlights and cut, but result you can see in my picture which is zero. They also gave me a really great vibe about what happened, but they didn't tell me to come back the following time, so they tried to do it the same way they did, but it didn't work out. If I will go again they will charge again same money to me for that kind of result. I'll also include images of my hair. No highlights result came to my hairs wasting my money to them.$420 is too much which they charge with no result. Very disappointed 😞
