We’re talking full-blown mutiny from the ankle down! After I was seated and had my feet washed in what can only be described as a baptism for tired soles, I can’t really tell you much more about the next hour because I proceeded to slip into some kind of coma courtesy of Danny, Mr. Wonder Hands. Upon waking with the help of smelling salts, I was escorted to the back to have my shoulders and neck worked on…It felt less like a massage and more like an exorcism of pent-up stress. Here’s the thing about Shun Fa: this isn’t some pretentious spa where you’re expected to whisper and sip cucumber water while contemplating your chakras. This is a no-frills, walk-in sanctuary where skilled practitioners do honest, exceptional bodywork without the markup or the theater. And the best part? For what you’d pay for a mediocre brunch in this city, you can walk out of here feeling like an entirely new person. This place is always dirty and at least half the staff have bad attitudes. I understand it's a hard job but clean up and be nice. The woman they had with me was totally inept to the point of painful. I almost walked out but they convinced me to stay and got another person to work on me. He was certainly better than the woman was but he got lazy the last half an hour and wouldn't make eye contact. I left him a $10.00 gratuity on $65.00 ($3.00 less than 20% and with good reason) and he huffily pointed to the board and demanded more money. The man at the register told him to stop but that's it. I won't be back. P.S. I just read another review about how they tried to shame another client for not leaving what they considered a proper tip and the "owner" responded and said he would check the cameras to see if the poster was "telling the truth." SHAME ON THEM. AND YES, THEY REUSE DIRTY TOWELS.
