They have a little practice room where you can try out a piano. My boyfriend plays and he loved it! The lady working the desk was very nice and even complimented his playing ☺️ much more welcoming than I assumed, especially since there's no way either of us could afford a Steinway lol

Shout out to Ms. Selene Quiroga, who welcomed us warmly the moment we entered the store. As tourists visiting NYC for a short trip, we stumbled upon the Steinway store after getting lost near Times Square. Owning a grand piano has always been a dream of ours, but we never imagined we'd end up with a piece from Steinway. Selene's passion and pride for the Steinway brand convinced us of the Spirio series. Being fans of pianists like Yuja Wang and others, the idea of having their performances reflected on our piano at home was incredible. Additionally, Steinway has converted many master performances from black-and-white films to real life, allowing us to hear live performances from the past. I won’t delve too deeply into how fantastic our experience was. We are a humble couple who often get overlooked in many stores, and neither of us is a professional pianist. Despite this, we were welcomed and introduced to many pianos. Understandably, it's impossible for them to allow anyone to touch their pianos without approval. Imagine coming in with hands that just let go of street tacos— I wouldn’t let any random one to touch my piano at home either. So please, be kind to the staff and ask if you can try some of the pianos, if it's possible. No Cartier store allows people to freely handle their jewelry. Similarly, treat this store as a small museum or gallery; even without touching anything, the trip is worth it. We didn’t technically touch anything out of respect for the masterpieces, and they were kind enough to give us the confidence to make a purchase and rely on their exceptional customer service. We’ll definitely visit again next time when we go to NYC. :)

Very friendly staff. After helping with their interior renovation, they facilitated the process of buying a piano flawlessly. The acoustics in the concert hall are equally excellent.

I had an extremely negative experience at the Steinway store this weekend. Customers in stores were shushed and told they were not allowed to test pianos while someone was "selecting" at the far end of the store. Your current customer satisfaction should not be prioritized lightyears above your future customer satisfaction. When talking to representatives about the ability to play, there was little regard for me (likely because I appear young / not in target base) and several offputting / pretentious comments were made about "Steinway being the rolls-royce of pianos" that honestly rubbed me the wrong way. I considered myself a Steinway customer in the near future. Now I'm not so sure

As a former owner of a piano store and music Academy, I have to say I was completely appalled by my experience. My wife and I decided to visit our home state of New York, specifically New York City, one last time before moving abroad, and I had not seen the recently relocated location of Steinway Hall, so I wanted to check it out. From the moment we walked in, we Did not feel welcomed. The lady sitting at the front counter, looked up at us and didn’t even greet us or ask us if we had any questions or needed help with something. For all she knew we were there to buy a piano right then and there. All of the pianos on the main floor basically museum pieces and you can’t try them. They have a room with a model B that is poorly regulated and has an extremely loud squeaky pedal. Then when I asked if we were able to look at some of the pianos downstairs, the answer we got was absolutely rude, “no, you need an appointment.” The level of highbrow/pretentiousness that spewed from the experience was extremely off putting. I get it, you’re in one of the busiest cities in the world and I’m sure you get a lot of random people just walking in, but that doesn’t justify treating people the way we were as well as two other people that came in after us. Having performed at their former location numerous times, the respect I had for the company has completely gone out the window.
