Stony Brook Chinese School

My son goes to the Saturday Chinese school at Stony Brook. He loves it. The teachers are amazing and my son is learning a lot. We see his Chinese improving every week. I highly recommend this school for anyone looking for their kids to learn Chinese. They have classes for all levels of Chinese speaking, from beginner, to intermediate, to even advanced classes!

Our family has been with Stony Brook Chinese School for many years, and we’ve had a wonderful experience. My older child is now in 10th grade and is preparing for the AP Chinese exam, and the school has provided excellent support along the way. The teachers are dedicated, responsible, and truly care about their students’ progress. In addition to regular Chinese language classes, the school also offers a variety of free enrichment classes, which my children have really enjoyed. The program includes not only AP Chinese preparation classes but also bilingual classes designed for students who do not speak Chinese at home. Another thing we really appreciate is that the school is run by parent volunteers, along with helpful teaching assistants from local high schools and universities. Classes are held right on the Stony Brook University campus, which provides a great learning environment. Overall, we highly recommend Stony Brook Chinese School to any family looking for a supportive, well-organized, and enriching Chinese learning experience for their children.

Stony brook Chinese school offers both Mandarin and bilingual class, for kids and also adults. It's a great place for not only language learning, but also experiencing the culture, through classes, enrichment program and many other events throughout the year.

We’ve had a really good experience with Stony Brook Chinese School. The teachers are patient, organized, and really know how to keep the kids engaged. My child actually enjoys going each week, and we’ve seen clear progress in both speaking and reading since joining. What I appreciate most is the balance between language learning and cultural exposure. They don’t just teach from a textbook — they mix in activities, stories, and holiday events that make the whole experience feel meaningful. The school also has a strong parent community, and the staff is responsive and genuinely cares about the kids. Overall, we’re very happy with the program and feel it’s a solid choice for families looking for a structured, supportive place for their kids to learn Chinese.

Absolutely phenomenal. Best place to learn Chinese language and culture on Long Island. The board members and teaching assistants are volunteers - that is why they can keep the tuition low.
