Rating: 5/5 ❤️ Services: haircut (curtain bangs + trim) & full-head colour (muted cherry red) - Almost reluctant to review Sunny City as a part of me wants to gatekeep this but I think I owe it to Aunty Lily & Alice to praise the incredible service they’ve provided! - Came here on Friday for a haircut, my first since I moved to NYC earlier in the month. Called the salon and asked for Aunty Lily, got offered a slot and was very impressed by the haircut. I’ve only really had two hairdressers in my life cut my hair this well, and Aunty Lily understood the assignment with some reference pics / worked with me to get the curtain bangs I was going for! $42 with 20% tip, such a competitive price too. - Wanted to colour my hair red for the first time, and had such a good experience the first time around that I decided to come back to Sunny City for this. Aunty Alice painstakingly got every single strand on my head, making sure to prevent any dye from getting on the surroundings - she even got some on her sleeve by accident and was so good-natured about it! Aunty Lily supervised the whole thing, and stepped in occasionally to adjust the hue of the dye. In the end, they achieved a beautiful cherry red that was 100% what I wanted - I genuinely could not be happier. Paid $120 with 20% tip (because I came for a haircut earlier in the week so you might be charged more), easily beating quotes of $160-240 without tip I received from other establishments. The level of detail and care Aunty Alice & Lily provided throughout the entire process cannot be praised enough. - Parting thoughts: I love what i’ve seen at this salon. I think they run a tight ship, they have tons of new customers and ones that have clearly been coming for years, which I deeply admire. It’s not easy to keep up the consistency of your services when talent moves in and out over the years, but Aunty Lily is clearly doing something right. Speaking mandarin or canto will definitely enhance your experience here and that’s just a factor of relationship-building that you’ll have to accept if you don’t speak those languages. I think it’ll still be fine though! Saw lots of people who don’t speak mando / canto and they seemed to leave happy. Another thing to note: this isn’t a fancy-pants salon that you might expect from some salons in KTown / Midtown. But they will get the job done and people are very friendly. As with all aesthetic services, you’ll need to make your needs known (e.g. if you have sensitive skin, make it clear that you can’t tolerate hair drying with too much heat etc) and ensure your preferences are clearly communicated from the get-go. If you take responsibility for your experience, I’m pretty sure the Sunny City team will do what they can to make sure you’re comfortable. Lily 和 Alice 阿姨,谢谢你们哦!❤️
Its' a no frills cash only salon. Def not a luxury experience but ou will get great value here. Last year (2025) when i went it was $35 for cut, wash, and dry. Lily does detailed layered cuts and takes her time. I recommend texting Lily directly to make an appointment for haircut. they do take walk ins but might take longer and won't get your stylist of choice.
I had the most amazing experience with Lily. She washed my hair, cut it and even styled so perfectly. A 1000% recommend. It’s also super affordable. Even though I had long hair she was super patient with my haircut and made sure she was asking me if I didn’t like something throughout the process🙌🏻
Writing this review right after getting home from the salon because that's how impressed I am. I repeatedly had to change my appointment time, and they were so flexible and kind. I came in during a blizzard and closed the salon out, and Lily still went out of her way to triple check her work and ensure it was up to standards. Twice she went back to fix something and I was tempted to say no because I was hungry and wanted to go home, but you have to trust someone this dedicated and detail-oriented and say yes to their suggestion. I probably wanted to go home more than she did lol. I've been to many salons in Chinatown (multiple Chinatowns, in fact) and this is by far the best service I've gotten to date. The staff is really kind and yes, they do offer snacks! In my experience with Chinese salons, you should be a little flexible with your vision because they like to offer suggestions. I was really happy with Lily's suggestions for the most part - including changing out my middle part for the first time in years (major!). I'm excited to come back here!
I went because of the great reviews. A guy with long hair cut my hair and he was rough with handling and just rude. When I described when I wanted, he got annoyed and disagreed. For what it’s my hair! He couldn’t in see the vision of what I wanted - negative energy the whole cut - avoid! Get a cut from the other stylists. If I wanted to adjust to get comfortable, later. If I wanted to speak, would not listen ok, ok ,ok and just talk over you. Felt unwelcome and not worth the great value they offer. Really nice and normal shampoo lady.
