Third Street Music School

One of the best music schools in New York City! My kids absolutely love studying here. They’re part of the rock and jazz band, take theory, voice, and piano lessons, and every instructor has been nothing short of excellent — talented, warm, and truly dedicated. A special shout-out to Kaitlin, who leads the Summer Musical Theater program. She’s incredible — loving, extremely prepared, and endlessly patient. The annual community events they organize are amazing and full of heart. Also, Myra from Student Services is always on top of everything. She’s accessible, supportive, and helps with any schedule changes my kids need. I’m very happy and impressed with the education and overall experience my children are receiving. Highly recommended! 🎶💛

My children have been Third Street students since first grade, and they are now in eighth grade. Our elementary school, Chelsea Prep, is one of the many partner schools of Third Street. Over the years, Third Street has sent excellent music and dance teachers to our school and taught the children music, dance and violin. We were so fortunate to have those classes at school due to DOE budget cuts in the arts. In my opinion, no child should be deprived of education in the arts. Third Street comes in, bridges that gap and enrich so many kids' lives. My children take flute lessons at Third Street with amazing teachers. The chamber music program at Third Street also welcomed the kids to play, learn and grow in a group ensemble setting. Other ensembles such as jazz band, orchestra and symphonic band are also offered if you want to branch out. Children from our elementary school take hip hop dancing, violin, guitar, keyboard and lessons in music theory at Third Street. There are also lessons and ensembles for adults to explore. We attend performances and concerts that Third Street offer free to the community such as master classes, cultural celebrations, holiday performances, Block Parties, indoor and outdoor concerts (and so much more). At our music school, we feel a sense of belonging and acceptance, regardless of our financial or musical ability. Third Street is like a second home where people of all ages can gather and enjoy music, dancing, and theater. The magic it brings to the community is created by dedicated and hardworking staff, administrators and faculty, who changes lives every day in so many ways. Thank you!

We had a horrible experience with this school. My son used to take piano lessons with Zane Myers. During those times, he practiced almost everyday, but we didn't see any growth. So we simply thought he was not talented and then quit. Recently, my son mentioned to me that his teacher didn't teach during the lessons but just played with his computer/cell phone, and even watch inappropriate video behind my son!!! I was so shocked and couldn't believe it. As a parent, we trusted this school and didn't sit in. It's very clear that the school knew everything about teacher's behavior but nobody mentioned to us, because they only cared about making profit. I also felt so heartbroken that my son could potentially develop his musical interest, but with this unprofessional and unethical teacher, he didn't want to even try other music school/lesson. PLEASE stay away! I am also about to file a complaint to DOE.
