This place is a true hidden gem! We ended up here because the line at the famous Wah Fung No. 1 Fast Food nearby was over an hour long — and honestly, we were lucky it turned out that way. Prices here are comparable to Wah Fung’s, maybe just slightly higher, but you get so much more: service, a proper seat at a table, and a more relaxed atmosphere. The food itself was amazing. We had a mix of roast meats over rice, soup, fried Chinese dumplings, and steamed rice meat crepes — all absolutely delicious. The portions were generous too. Where else in New York can you get a big plate of Cantonese roast meats with rice for just $10? It’s easily one of the best value-for-money spots I’ve found in the city. The only downside was the service. The staff were very formal and a bit rushed, even rolling their eyes when we took a moment to decide on our order, despite the restaurant not being full. Still, this was just a small negative in an otherwise fantastic experience. Overall: excellent food, great value, and a much better dining option than standing in line for hours.
Ive been eating Chinese food since I was a child... I first noticed this place by the line of people waiting to get roasted duck. Then everytime I passed it was busy. Once I had the chance to grab food here I did. And wow. This place is amazing. There are many small restaurants like thus in chinatown. But this one is my favorite so far. I went to eat at 3:00 so was lucky enough to eat during the down time while all the employees also stopped to eat. I enjoyed the chance to see that the employees also ate the food there!! Will probably eat there another couple times, before I leave the best city. Great prices too
I love this place for a cheap, tasty, fast meal. White rice, steamed cabbage, and meat of your choice. I've had the ribs, char sui, duck, and chicken. The ribs and chicken are my favorite but all the meats are great. You can get one or two meats for less than $10 and three meats for like $12. They give you free hot tea. It's cozy. Not loud.
This char siu rice is seriously underrated in NYC Chinatown. Tin Wong serves a gigantic portion of char siu rice for only $8.50, and they’re generous with the meat. My jaw dropped when it hit the table — the portion was huge! It was a lot even for a grown man. I had to share it with my boyfriend because there was no way I could finish it on my own. *Roast Pork & Chicken Thigh on Rice 蜜汁叉燒雞髀飯 $14 This time we opted for chicken thigh, so it was a bit more expensive. A regular char siu and chicken rice is only $10, and the three-topping one (三拼飯) is $14. Both the char siu and the chicken thighs were flavorful without being overly salty. The meat was tender with a good balance of fat and lean. What I appreciated most was the ginger scallion sauce (薑蓉) and cabbage on the side, plus the rice drizzled with savory soy sauce. All the little details made it so satisfying. Thay also sell char siu for $13/lb.
Amazing food and great prices. We got the pecking duck and it was soooo good. One of the ladies helped prepare it for me, it such a sweet and memorable gesture.
