I love this shop. I’ll say about our second time coming here for service on our Volkswagon: Tolema’s Auto Center is easy to work with, communication is perfect, expectations are established and exceeded, and they returned our car several days sooner than anticipated. Our motor was leaking oil from a missing dip stick hose, oil everywhere; needed new motor mounts too, and a new tire. We got it back fast and everything was cleaned up and safe. Thank you guys.

Finding a good mechanic is difficult, so I'm glad I found Tolina. My car had a slight mildew smell in the interior, and they did an amazing job restoring it. The detailing and front fender work made my 15-year-old car look like new. The staff was super professional and walked me through all the recommended actions. The price was reasonable too.

1. My check engine soon light was on. I specifically asked the oxygen sensors be replaced to correct it. They refused to change them, saying they were not causing the Check Engine light to be on. (When I took my car to a different shop, the parts were replaced and that solved the problem.) 2. I asked the valve cover gasket be replaced; they did that work, but either didn't notice the PCV valve was broken or broke it when they did the gasket. Either way, they fixed that when I returned a few days later with the new issue. Total so far: ~$2,000, and still they haven't done my oxygen sensors, which they keep telling me are OK. ***When the light came back on after the PCV valve repair, the "customer service manager" slammed my driver's side door HARD, which hasn't closed correctly since.*** I promptly paid my bill and took her to another shop, which: A. Replaced my oxygen sensors, check engine problem solved. B. Fixed the valve cover gasket which had not been properly replaced by Tolima's C. Replaced my oil filter hose and sensor, which were also damaged D. Cleaned everything in my engine. It looks like a new engine now it's so clean. When I originally posted about these problems, Tolima's responded that my car needed regular maintenance and that I only brought it in for inspections, and all these problems were my fault so I'll address that too: 1. I was in the hospital and then spent six months homebound, then needed to learn how to walk again. I was unable to drive for months. Car maintenance took a back seat until I was healthy enough, which took over a year. 2. I have had done at Tolima's: Lights, oil changes, filters, inspections, a full set of tires, plus the $2000 on the PCV valve and valve cover gasket and oil change. They could have had much more of my business, but rather told me my business didn't matter because all I had done there "was inspections." This shop used to have great customer service. I think the guy didn't believe me because I am a woman--never mind my brother literally builds cars for a living (if he lived here, he would have done all this work for me). Very poor service and I will never go back there. Ladies and men with sisters, moms, and aunties, beware!

I had about as bad an experience as I think is possible. Full disclosure: My car is old (1982) so more complicated, but this was still an absolutely absurd series of events. TLDR: 5 months later, had to pick up my car in worse shape than when it came in after long delays and an attempt to reprice the job months after starting. I got in a collision and got hooked up with Parrish through a friend. Dropped off the car in early August, for repair and repaint. After insurance came through, it took Tolima’s weeks to give me a quote, but they gave me a friendly rate so I stuck around. Three more weeks for them to get started (we’re now in late October) and finally give me a time estimate: another two months (Christmas). December 10: They say it’s going to cost 50% more, because they found rust under the paint. This can absolutely happen with older cars when you start work, but we’re now 4 months in. They also try to reprice the entire job rather than giving me an incremental estimate for new work. I push back and when they finally do give me an “incremental” estimate a month later (early Jan), it still includes over $2000 for things like “remove and install panels” – clearly part of original scope. I press them on this and they refuse to complete the job, tell me to pick up my unfinished car (half of it stripped to bare metal), give me a flat invoice for work done – and when I ask them to itemize it (as legally required), they retaliate by taking off the new door they’d installed and putting back on my old crumpled one with a broken window. To add insult to injury, they also leave trim hanging off the car not properly re-bolted, trash and bottle caps inside the car, and the battery dead. The car hadn’t been started in all the time they had it (very bad for an old car), and now the engine won’t shut off. This might have been an anomalous situation because I came in through a friend – I think they gave me a quote that was too low for the shop to actually want to do. But the communication and the way they handled it was so horrible – they wasted so much of my time and took no responsibility for it, calling me unreasonable and spoiled for asking them to deliver what they promised. Some shops will tell you upfront what to expect, and some (like this one) say whatever it takes to get your business and then surprise you. A straightforward job here might go fine, but complications can come up in auto work, and if you want a shop that you can trust to handle it well and treat you fairly, I’d highly recommend going somewhere else.

ALERT: (02/16/26) Do not bring your vehicle to Tolima's Auto Center, LIC, NY as both customer service and auto repair services are very poor and lacking. Low quality repairs; exorbitant labor charges and the runaround given with an arrogant, disingenuous smile. It's difficult to accept and believe there are others who had a positive experience with Tolima's Auto Center or could recommend this place. A "One star," rating is too much. Not versed on foreign cars, I brought older foreign vehicle in for full diagnostics of "engine failure/engine light on." Tolima's Auto Center held my vehicle for over a month and never delivered timely updates on status. The "We'll give you a call...", on status of vehicle," occurred only at payment time. Otherwise, I had to call once a week to get the typical excuses (waiting on parts; still working on vehicle, etc.). Picked up vehicle after waiting 4.5 weeks and paid the extensive auto repair fee ($XXXX.XX) only to have vehicle towed back to Tolima's. They worked on vehicle another week, and only when I called--said it was ready for pick-up. Picked up vehicle and two weeks later, the vehicle engine light came on and vehicle shut off on the highway. Had to have vehicle towed to an out of state garage and pay again to get it running. Wanted to take auto back to Tolima's in order for them to honor their repair service warranty but can't in my conscionable mind return there. Decided to cut my losses and write this review with the intention of saving someone else the time, aggravation and loss of money. Exposing that Tolima's Auto Center is about politely taking your money with empty promises. And yes--I'm fully expecting Tolima's Auto Center to immediately detract from and dismiss this negative review.
