I came here for the second time and the experience was better than my first! I say that because the ipad menu ordering is convenient yet a paper menu is less overwhelming than seeing it on screen, Weird i know, but i was able to order what i truly liked from the paper menu. The jelly noodle with sago and rice ball was very refreshing and delicious, with great portions and the service was friendly. Interior was very cute and spacious but loud ambiance you can hear the hand dryer in the bathroom from the dining room lol.
The two things I walked away with; 1) very kind customer service and 2) that yummy ginger pudding! I took my two little ones there and we shared: - mango pomelo sago (the kids fought over it, and it was a solid drink). - truffle beef, bacon, cream stew rice: this was a hit with the kids. They enjoyed the rice and ate the bacon. I ended up with the beef (not complaining) which was tender and plentiful. This was a solid meal item. - shrimp balls with cheese: These come out hot and they were fried very well. I cut a few open and some of them didn’t have cheese in them. I raised it to the waiter and they immediately apologized and insisted on bringing out another order (I was looking to just get $2 off bc I didn’t think we could finish). I appreciated this gesture and accountability. - double milk custards, plain. One with an addition of rice mochi balls. The milk custard texture is exactly what you expect from a delicious nicely set custard. However, it’s only a touch sweet, so you really need an addition on if you’re looking for a true dessert. On its on, it’s definitely creamy though. - Ginger pudding: This is why I dared to bring two little kids to a restaurant by myself. The set up is cute; they do the pour in front of you, cover, and top with an hourglass. Once it’s done; you can eat. The ginger juice gives this a strong punch and the texture is silky and soft; like barely held together (in a good way). The staff checked in on us multiple times. Gave me a giant stack of napkins when I asked. Saw I brought kids and they replaced with paper cups and plastic utensils. Would definitely come back
Sandwich nice, salad nice, coconut dessert nice (just dont get the rose one, they just sprinkle rose pedals which taste very dry for a cold dessert), coffee nice, the ginger milk is a MUST try if you dont mind ginger. They use tablet (picture menu) to order. Very nice place to sit and chat. They have a few other Asian dessert I want to try.
Dessert 4/5 Service 3.5/5 Ambience 4.5/5 I much prefer this location over the Flushing one. It’s more spacious and has a much cuter aesthetic. Ginger Milk Pudding (3.75/5): We made the mistake of asking for extra ginger, which I wouldn’t recommend. It became so strong that it turned bitter, the regular version is definitely the way to go. Unfortunately, the service was a bit rushed, our server poured the milk quite aggressively, causing some of it to spill. Watermelon Pandan Jelly with Coconut Milk (4.25/5): This was the highlight! The fresh watermelon paired surprisingly well with the pandan jelly. Jasmine Milk Tea (4/5): A solid tea, though I think I prefer the Osmanthus version here. The jasmine flavor was a bit subtle and could have been more pronounced, but overall it was still a pleasant drink.
Yuan Yang definitely has a lot of potential of being one of the best and most authentic Chinese dessert spot in all of Brooklyn. Their jasmine pudding and ginger milk pudding were both extremely delicious, although I'd caution going light on the ginger for the normal amount was already quite intense. Their other dessert selections are on the pricier side compared to other places. The spaghetti with shrimp, mushroom and bacon cream had really good flavor, but the mushroom were cut so thin and so scarce that you can barely taste it; it felt like they cut half of one mushroom (as evident in the photo). The shrimp were the baby shrimp which I personally don't really like and felt it made the dish worse. Overall it's an easy fix if they choose to, but the dish definitely has potential of being amazing! The staff were all very friendly and spoke English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. The aesthetics is very pretty and welcoming, with enough space between tables to sit comfortably. Overall, a pretty good experience and I will definitely come back to try some of their other selections. Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:
