I’m sharing my experience with opposing counsel, attorney Sylvia Tsai, due to serious concerns about communication, professionalism, and adherence to agreements in an ongoing civil matter. Throughout the case, emails and requests for clarification went unanswered for long periods, even after she stated documents or updates were “forthcoming.” Her representations about settlement status frequently shifted or were not followed through, making it difficult to rely on what was said. A signed stipulation agreement was also not completed within the required timeframe, and follow-up questions about compliance were ignored or significantly delayed. During settlement discussions, standard terms stalled because she added an unrelated condition requiring me to agree not to “disparage” the hotel—something never previously discussed—which further halted progress. These repeated delays and inconsistencies created unnecessary confusion, added time and cost, and prevented the case from advancing. Based on my experience, the conduct raised concerns under several New York Rules of Professional Conduct, including diligence, communication, truthfulness, and avoiding unnecessary delay. I’m sharing this to provide an honest account of my experience and can provide documentation if needed. Update in response to owner: Direct communication isn’t a prerequisite for justification of harm nor does it negate the validity of my experience or the impact. From the beginning, the firm put up barriers to resolving the issue as I’ve already outlined including not responding to emails in a timely manner, asking for an extension which delayed the settlement from the very beginning, and all the other things I mentioned. The goal was clearly to drag the resolution, payment, and settlement out as long as possible to avoid paying the stipulated amount.
